    History of the festival

    The Francofolies of La Rochelle

Created on the initiative of Jean-Louis Foulquier in 1985 in La Rochelle in Charente-Maritime, the Francofolies is one of the most iconic music festivals in France and Europe.

The festival, which takes place every year in July, has been committed from the beginning to promoting and disseminating contemporary song and music, mainly French and French-speaking, to a wide audience.

The Francofolies were a huge success and in 1989 they were exported to Montreal in Quebec, then to Bulgaria and Belgium.

Since then, and always in parallel to the original version of La Rochelle, different versions have been offered, for example on the South American continent in Buenos Aires in Argentina and Santiago de Chile, but also in Berlin in Germany or Geneva in Switzerland.

Similarly, the Francofolies of New Caledonia were held for the first time in 2017 at the Tjibaou Cultural Centre in Nouméa.

    The Francofolies of New Caledonia

The Francofolies of New Caledonia took place for the first time at the Tjibaou Cultural Centre in Nouméa between September 8th and September 10th 2017, with Youssoupha, Cali, Miossec, LEJ, Claudio Capéo, Black M, Boulevard des Airs and Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine as headliners, alongside local artists such as Édou. Nearly 8,000 visitors were present for the occasion. Since then, other headliners such as Eddy de Pretto, IAM, Dadju or Amadou & Mariam have made the trip to the Pacific to perform in the sublime setting of the Centre Culturel Tjibaou, an architectural marvel designed by Enzo Piano.
